Eventually, Ohio State's overwhelming advantage in size and athleticism took over as the Buckeyes tallied 21 unanswered points in the second half to cruise to a relatively easy 38-7 win over West Point on Saturday.
The No. 8 team in the country jumped out to an early 14-0 lead before the Black Knights settled in.
Army's triple-option offense, led by quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw, dug in and pounded out a 16-play, 99-yard touchdown drive capped by a 3-yard Darnell Woolfolk run to close the deficit to a touchdown.
A late second quarter field goal by the Buckeyes pushed their lead to 10 at halftime.
A score either way would have changed the complexion of the game coming out of the tunnel for the second half. Army's opening drive in the third quarter stalled at the Ohio State 26. An errant field goal that would have closed the gap to 7 had it gone through seemed to wake up the Big Ten power.
Ohio State only needed 27 seconds to score their next touchdown. The Black Knights turned the ball over on their next drive. Ohio State parlayed the turnover into another trip to the end zone.
Army drops to 2-1 on the season. The Cadets travel to New Orleans to take on Tulane next week.
