PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- A Port Jervis woman was charged with breaking into a home and stabbing a man multiple times in the face, according to police.

Port Jervis Police said that at around 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, officers responded to a Hammond Street address on a report of a man who had been stabbed in the face. When they arrived, they located a 27-year-old man who was suffering from stab wounds to the face and abdomen and was bleeding severely, police said.

The man was taken to Bon Secours Community Hospital for emergency treatment and is recovering from his injuries, police said. Following an investigation, police arrested 33-year-old Vanessa Cavalone of Port Jervis.

Police said that Cavalone unlawfully entered the home and assaulted and stabbed the man multiple times with a knife. She was charged with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary, both Class B felonies, as well as fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree criminal contempt.

Cavalone was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail pending further court appearances.
