U.S. Marine Aaron C. Hnida, 21, Port Jervis Resident

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. – Aaron Cody Hnida of Port Jervis, died Saturday, Sept. 16. He was 21.

Hnida was born June 10, 1996 in Honesdale, Pa. the son of Arthur S. and Karla L. Balcom Hnida III.

Aaron proudly served in the United State Marine Corps.

A family statement read: “Aaron was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved running, so in high school he joined the Cross Country Team. He was dedicated to his physical fitness, so he never smoked or did any drugs or anything that would hinder his fitness performance. He enjoyed hiking and anything that put him in the outdoors. He loved to read and also had a passion for Shark Week. Aaron was the type of kid who made everyone smile, especially his little niece Rachael Grace, who loved to spend time and play with her uncle. He will be deeply missed.”

Surviving are:

His parents Arthur and Karla Hnida; sister Alishia D. Weidner and her fiancé Keith Corrao; brother: Shane Robert Hnida; niece Rachael Grace Smith; great Aunt & Uncle: Cathie and John Pietsch; great Uncle: Timothy Balcom; aunts; Jennifer, Valerie and Katherine; paternal Grandparents: Arthur and Doris Hnida Jr.; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family and friends are welcome to visit the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Friday, Sept. 22 from 4 - 8 p.m.

Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home with Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Cremation will be at MacLennan Hall Crematorium in Milford, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the PTSD Foundation of America, a charity that meant a lot to Aaron, at P.O. Box 690748, Houston, TX 77269.
