Cornwall's Village Skin Studio Helps You Put Your Best Face Forward

CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Skincare can be confusing even for a professional, which is why Marisa Colson of Village Skin Studio takes pride in educating herself and staying current with the latest procedures.

January, in fact, marks her 10-year anniversary.

The Cornwall-on-Hudson business specializes in customized facials focusing on age management and acne prone skin. Colson also travels frequently to California (she's licensed there too) to keep up with the latest trends.

"If there's something beyond my scope of practice I work with Dr. Stephan Chevalier, who comes in on a monthly basis to do fillers such as Juvederm, Botox etc.," she said.

The licensed esthetician also refers clients to Dr. Jonathan Fugo, another respected plastic surgeon.

"I like to call my place a studio with a spa like feel," she said.

"The word 'studio' allows me to be more creative."

That means customized facials that are more on the clinical side -- no two facials are alike,

"I treat what I see," she said -- all in a cozy private space where one client is seen at a time.

Her most popular facial is a Dermaplane with LED Light Therapy and an Oxygen Treatment which removes dry, dead skin allowing product to penetrate and hydrate the skin better.

"Skin cells react to light, the red light from the LED mask helps stimulate collagen and the blue light helps destroy acne-causing bacteria," she explained.

"Oxygen helps create new cells --  a burst of oxygen soothes the skin after a facial leaving the skin looking refreshed and renewed."

For September, expect a Fall Special of $150 for a Dermaplane with a pumpkin enzyme peel, LED Light Therapy and an O2 Treatment. Colson also offers a host of winter specials.

For now, though, she advises folks to replenish the lost Vitamin A in their skin cells which come after a hot summer. High on her list: products that contain Vitamin A, C, and E. (Her favorite is from Environ.)

Another tip as the weather gets cooler: Don't pack away the sunscreen. "You need to be diligent with the sunscreen all year long," she said.

Lastly, Use your products twice a day and remember the repair work is done at night.

"Skincare is like going to the gym," she said. "We cannot achieve full fitness by doing one thing or training one muscle group.

"Skin is the same, we have to look at the big picture and work from the inside out and outside in."
